FAQ'S

WHAT IS THE TEXTBOOK RETURN POLICY?

Textbooks are returnable within the first week of the FALL and SPRING semesters- (Prior to commencement of the FALL semester special rules may apply-contact bookstore for further information). Textbooks are returnable within three days from date on the bottom of receipt for SUMMER sessions (No refunds on one day or one week workshops). Textbooks are returnable within two weeks of purchase date for OFF-CAMPUS classes. If the book is in the original purchased condition you will receive a full refund (still in shrink wrap, not damaged at all). If a new book is not in original purchased condition the book will be refunded at the used price. The bookstore will only issue cash refunds of $100.00 or less. If it is more than $100.00 the refund will be given by check issued by the business office or credited to the Higher One card within 5 working days. If purchased with a credit or debit card the amount will be credited to that account upon refund. Customers must provide the original cash register receipt, class schedule, and valid photo ID, and an Adams State student identification number.

IS THE RETURN POLICY THE SAME FOR ALL MERCHANDISE?

For everything except textbooks you have 30 days from the date of purchase to return your merchandise. Bring your original cash register receipt and your photo ID.

WHAT DO I DO WITH MY TEXTBOOKS AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER?

The ASC Bookstore will buy your books back at the end of the semester. The amount of money you receive is based upon several criteria; first, whether the book is being used next semester, the number of copies that the bookstore needs, whether instructors have placed their book request order for next semester, and whether there is a new edition of the book. The prices may vary according to these criteria. The ASC Bookstore will buy your books back regardless of where you originally purchased them.

DO I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE END OF THE SEMESTER TO SELL BACK MY BOOKS?

No, the ASC Bookstore buys them back all year. However, the best prices are paid during finals week.

WILL THE BOOKSTORE BUY BACK BOOKS THAT ARE NOT BEING USED NEXT SEMESTER?

Yes, if there is a national demand for the book, the bookstore will buy them back at a market value price.

HOW DOES THE BOOKSTORE KNOW WHAT BOOKS ARE NEEDED?

The instructors make all of the decisions regarding what textbooks will be used in a particular class.

WILL I BE ABLE TO PURCHASE ALL OF MY BOOKS IN ONE PLACE?

The ASC Bookstore has a complete listing of textbooks requested by the instructors. The bookstore has over 1,000 textbook titles. We even special order books!

IT'S THE FIRST WEEK OF CLASS AND MY BOOK IS NOT ON THE SHELF. WHERE IS MY BOOK?

The Bookstore has 90-98% of all required texts on the shelf at least two weeks before the start of classes. If your book is not here, it's usually outside the control of the Bookstore. Any known information about your missing book is printed on the "shelf talker" located where your book should be. In order of frequency, the reason your book is not on the shelf is: The publisher is out of stock. The book is out of print or not yet printed. The requisition for the book was received late from the professor or the department. During this time, the Bookstore continues to check regularly with the publisher, inform the professor and department about the status of your missing book, and post any known information on the shelf talker and on the availability list. The Bookstore apologizes for any inconvenience to you that is beyond our control.

HOW DOES THE BOOKSTORE DETERMINE THE PRICE OF A TEXTBOOK AND CAN I FIND IT CHEAPER SOMEWHERE ELSE?

The ASC Bookstore works to provide you with the right book, at the right time, and at the best possible price. The ASC Bookstore is owned and operated by Adams State College. All course books are priced based on what publishers charge plus a mark-up to cover salaries and other obligations ASC must pay for (rent, improvements, etc.) Therefore, the price of the book is what it costs to get the book to you. The ASC Bookstore is as competitive as it can be, but obviously can't sell a book for less than what it costs. If you think you've found your coursebook cheaper somewhere else, there are a few things to consider: Are there shipping and handling charges? Is the price in US or foreign currency? Are there custom and duty charges? Is the book available now when you need it? Or will you waste valuable time before the book is actually in your hands. If your class is canceled or you drop the course, what will happen? If you decide within 1 week that you don't want the book, will you be able to get a refund? If you need to return the book, are there any restocking fees? Will you have to pack up the book and pay return mailing charges? Are you able to get the book used or do they only sell it new? And once you've finished with the book, will you be able to it sell back for a competitive price?
