Zacheis Planetarium has four more events planned in October (10-15-07)

The Adams State College Zacheis Planetarium and Observatory schedule for October consists of a wide variety of entertainment including a robot workshop, telescope viewings and a night of scary stories.

A telescope viewing session focusing on Jupiter, the moon, and other deep space objects begins at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17. The viewing is weather dependent; please dress warmly as the night time temperatures are becoming noticeably cooler. This event is free and is suitable for all ages.

A free two-hour workshop in beginning electronics and robotics begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 in Porter Hall room 120 on the Adams State College campus. No experience is necessary for this introductory workshop but reservations are required. During the two hours, participants will explore the usage of simple logic circuits and move into the programming of microcontrollers used in robotics. This workshop is suitable for both young people (7th grade or higher) and senior citizens. Call 719-587-7616 to make reservations; if you get the answering machine please say who and how many will be attending. Enrollment in this free workshop is limited to 20 people.

The Cassini-Huygens Mission to Saturn and Titan documentary, Ring World II, begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26. The probe was launched 10 years ago and has provided us with insight into the nature of the rings around Saturn and the atmosphere of Titan. This show is free with the doors to the planetarium opening at 7:00 p.m. Reservations are not required but seating is limited. The doors will be closed at 7:30 p.m. The show will last about 50 minutes.

Prepare to be scared with the Zacheis Planetarium "Halloween Show" on Saturday, Oct. 27, and Monday, Oct. 29. This free public show is a collection of three tales of horror from the San Luis Valley. This show is not suitable for the very young as it deals with hunter mishaps, the haunting of Richardson Hall, and a mountain lion's craving for human flesh. The doors at the planetarium open at 7:00 p.m. on both days with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Reservations for this free show are not required but seating is limited and the doors will be closed at 7:30 p.m. Again, this 45-minute show is not suitable for the very young.
