On September 25 and 26 Adams State College was privileged to host Lic. Tereso Joj Cosme, Community Development Director for the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (UVG), who was in the state to present at the Colorado Association for Bilingual Education later in the week. Joj's visit was supported by the Department of Teacher Education and the READ-ELA grant. Adams State has been working on a partnership with UVG that would permit student and faculty exchanges, professional development, and US-Guatemala teacher-to-teacher collaboration.

Joj met with Associate Provost Dr. Frank Novotny and Department of Education Chair Dr. Mary Valerio in addition to visiting several Alamosa schools and teachers. On Tuesday evening a reception was hosted in his honor for the campus and community which included a short presentation about recent developments in Guatemalan schools.

Upon his return to Guatemala Joj said that he would be giving a report to the campus president about his visit. "I will let them know that in Alamosa there are many individuals who are also concerned with making schools the best they can be for our students, and that they are working to help the Q'anjob'al community there," he said.
