Fahrenheit 451 continues with 1st Amendment Forum and teleconference with Bradbury (11-06-07)

The Adams State College Fahrenheit 451 Project heats up with two events, a First Amendment Forum, and Ask Ray Bradbury. The forum is a debate about free speech, censorship, political dissent, and pornography at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14 in the Xperimental Theatre. Author Ray Bradbury will be live, via a teleconference for audience questions at 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 15 in the Adams State Theater Building.

Brooke Andrade, instruction/reference librarian for Nielsen Library, is organizing the First Amendment Forum. "Dr. Taylor called and asked if I wanted to plan the forum," she said. "Librarians are always interested in the First Amendment."

The forum's panel includes Dr. George Backen, assistant professor of philosophy; Dr. Stephen Roberds, associate professor of history, government, and philosophy; Dr. David Mazel, professor of English; Jim Pfaff, director of the Colorado Family Institute; Andrew Ward, Adams State senior.

"A First Amendment Forum is important in today's administration," Andrade said. "Many of our First Amendment rights are in danger."

The panelists are expected to have a wide range of view points. "I expect the forum to be controversial and heated," Andrade said. "We want members of the audience to participate with questions."

The events are free to the public.
