Adams State College lights Richardson Hall with holiday decorations. The display is an annual event set to turn on after Thanksgiving.

According to Mark Swicegood, physical plant manager, Rodney Matinez, Joe Mestas, Dennis Gonzales and Kevin Ruybal spend eight hours a day for five days getting everything just right.

"We've been hanging the lights since I started in 1988," said Swicegood.

Dr. J. Thomas Gilmore, emeritus professor of Business, remembers a time when the lights were unplugged.

"In the mid 70s the governor of Colorado asked that all outdoor lighting that wasn't necessary be left off," said Gilmore. "For several years during the energy crisis we reduced our thermostat and didn't hang our holiday lights."

Gilmore said he believes by the 80s the ban was lifted and the lighting continued.
