Internship focus is ASC Accreditation (11-01-05)
Dr. Guy Farish
Dr. Guy Farish, associate professor of biology, accepted an internship with the Office of Academic Affairs. He has been working with Provost Dr. David Svaldi since late spring.
"The opportunity was available for the whole campus," Farish said. "I was interested in administration and applied."
"I had a little taste of what it was like to be an administrator when I was Faculty Senate President and it whetted my appetite for more," Farish said.
The college is currently going through an accreditation process. Farish co-chairs the Higher Learning Commission Self Study Steering Committee.
According to the website http://www2.adams.edu/hlc Regional institutional accreditation is a prerequisite for Adams State to be eligible to disburse state and federal financial aid as well as for its degrees and courses to be recognized by other post-secondary institutions.
The college began preparing for the accreditation visit in the fall of 2004. Farish believes the college is off to a good start with the accreditation process.
"I am optimistic about the process. I really appreciate all the hard work people have put towards this effort," Farish said.
According to Farish the two consultation visits have gone very well and indicate the college is on the right track.
"I've been enjoying the experience, although this was an unusual year," said Farish. "I appreciate the guidance and leadership from Dr. Svaldi."
Besides his work with the accreditation, Farish also helped organize a conference on renewable energy on campus last summer and is involved in agenda items for the Board of Trustees for Adams State College. He also continues teaching two labs courses in the biology department.
