ASC Alumnus Awarded Teacher of the Year (05-19-05)
Adams State College is proud of alumna, Brenda Jimenez '94, first grade teacher at Sierra Grande Schools, for receiving Teacher of the Year by the San Luis Valley-Board of Cooperative Services. SLV-BOCS held a dinner to recognize all the nominees and announce the Teacher of the Year on April 27.
Dr. Georgia Grantham, assistant provost at Adams State College, was the keynote speaker at the award ceremony, and presented the award to Jimenez.
Besides Jimenez, many other Adams State College alumni teaching in the San Luis Valley were nominated, including: Donna Armenta '97, PE Polston Elementary; Kathy Kulp '04, 1st grade Center Elementary; Aaron Horrocks '01, 8th grade Del Norte; Lori Lovato '83, 5th, 6th and 7th grade Moffat; Christine Sisneros '73, 7th grade English Monte Vista Jr. High; Elaine Leech '69, 2nd grade Elementary North Conejos; Blake Canty '96, 7-12 Science Jr./Sr. High School Sanford; Tonya Lester '94 Elementary PE/Title I Sargent; and Margie Jiron '80, 3rd grade Elementary South Conejos.
According to Grantham the SLV Teacher of the Year was awarded a $500 Adams State College Scholarship to be given to the student of her choice.
