Nearly all Adams State General Education courses OK'd for transfer (06-09-05)

Ninety percent of Adams State College General Education requirements have already won state approval for guaranteed transfer, according to Adam State Provost, Dr. David Svaldi.

The three remaining unapproved courses will be revised and resubmitted at the earliest opportunity, he added. "The Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE) requirements for course review are unclear for variable topic English Courses and Integrated Science Courses, and we are awaiting clarification," Svaldi explained.

The ongoing CCHE review process is revised periodically, Svaldi said, noting this was one of three course reviews over the last three years.

Adams State's General Education curriculum comprises the Associate's of Arts/Associate's of Science core and is required for all Bachelor's degree programs.

The three Adams State courses that will be revised are English 203 - Major Themes in Literature, Music 100, - Introduction to Music Literature, and Integrated Science I and II.

"Our goal is to guarantee that all our General Education classes will transfer to any Colorado public two- or four-year institution. This is a strong core curriculum that supports the excellent preparation of our graduates" Svaldi said.

"I do not foresee problems with transferring any course from Adams State College. We are well on our way to a 100 percent-guaranteed transfer core curriculum."

The CCHE coordinated a group of 100 faculty members from different schools and disciplines to review class descriptions. More than a third of the 320 core classes submitted for review by Colorado public colleges and universities were identified with deficiencies that might preclude transfer to another institution.

Such courses are required to be noted as non-transferable in course catalogs. However, these courses still qualify for degree completion at their original college.
