ASC Roger Eriksen Receives Special Recognition (08-09-07)
Adams State College Assistant Professor of Art Roger Eriksen has received special recognition for his artwork in the 9th Annual Landscape International Juried Online Art Exhibition hosted by Upstream People Gallery.
This international exhibition received over 300 entries from around the world and 62 artists were selected by the juror Larry Bradshaw, professor of art at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Bradshaw said: "Roger Eriksen is able to sense the wonder of typography especially in two of his opposite formatted digital photographs. In his vertical piece 'Canyon Falls at Yellowstone' he shows the character of water in the waterfall and the rapids of the river. In his panoramic horizontal piece 'River' he shows the calmness of the meandering river."
Eriksen said: "The image, Canyon Falls at Yellowstone, was created by merging two vertical images together using specialized photo manipulation software. I was able to capture subtleties of not only the falls in the distance, but also the rapids in the foreground. Many have remarked that the image seems to look more like a painting than a photo, since the shift in light from background to foreground is quite distinct, with an almost surreal effect. The final image was also cropped to an extreme vertical format in order to emphasize the composition."
The exhibition will be on display online during July, 2007 at Upstream People Gallery and continue for 12 months, closing June 30, 2008.
