It is different, it is good (04-23-07)

A Review

The Adams State College Theatre production, Good, is everything theatre should be - an interesting story told with passion and commitment, connecting to its audience. The performances by Daniel Durkin and Zach Burrell lead the entire cast into a beautiful demonstration of the wonder of theatre.

This production possesses unique characteristics and moves the realm of theatre into dimensions only live performances can deliver.

The play included music, which did an excellent job of enhancing the entire experience, and the musicians were flawless in their delivery.

Durkin moved the audience, sweeping us up as we watched the sad tale of how a 'good' man makes several choices and finds himself unable to truly realize the consequences of his actions.

The supporting actors were admirable in their roles. Everything from the pathetic, lost soul of a woman to the self-righteous sadist was delivered with a certain understanding and credibility.

The director, Dr. Paul Newman, has a flair for stage and set. His dramatic touches draw audience members deeper into the magic of theatre. "Although it is set in 1938 Germany, the theme is as contemporary as any play we've ever done," Newman said. "In any time period including the present, the play argues we must continually question what is good and bad and the role of individual responsibility to take a stand against evil."

It is obvious a lot of talent, time, and energy have gone into Good, and it is worth every moment.

The production continues through this week starting at 8 p.m. April 26, 27 and 28; and includes a matinee at 2 p.m. April 29. Call 719-587-TIXX for reservations.

As I said before, Good is everything theatre should be - a thought-provoking plot played with heartfelt conviction.
