Adams State attends the OAH in Minneapolis (04-11-07)

Two Adams State College alumni and two professors, Dr. Richard Loosbrock, assistant professor of history, and Dr. Ed Crowther, chair of the History/Government/Philosophy Department, attended the 100th annual meeting of the Organization of American Historians in Minneapolis in March.

Crowther presented a talk, "Tenure, Promotion, and Organizational Mission Statements," at the OAH session on Teaching American History Grants. They were joined at the meeting by Adams State graduate and former football player, Dr. Thomas A. Bruscino '99 who completed his Ph. D. at Ohio University in 2005.

Bruscino delivered a paper that assessed the accuracy of the film "Saving Private Ryan" in shaping public memory of World War II. Bruscino now works for MPRI, which provides training and historical research for the Department of the Army. He credits Adams State, especially Dr. John McDaniel, professor of history, for helping him develop a career track that allows his to pursue his love for military history. "I was extremely well prepared for graduate school, better than many of my colleagues," he said.

Bruscino's wife, Teri '99, and their two sons, Dominic and Matthew, joined Bruscino at the meeting.

"It's such a delight to meet former students who are thriving personally and professionally," Crowther said. "Tom was a great student and football player and now he's a great scholar, spouse, and parent."
