Course Description: An integral part of the School of Arts and Letters, Art Appreciation provides a visual aesthetic awareness of the world paralleling all major disciplines of the humanities. Art Appreciation satisfies part of the humanities requirement. It is an introduction to art appreciation that provides a foundation in the basic concepts, themes, materials, and processes in the visual arts, as well as a brief history of art. Art appreciation often represents the undergraduates' only exposure to the visual arts. Topics concerning cultural bias, censorship, and sensationalism may arise that involve moral, ethical, philosophical, and aesthetic issues expanding the human experience.
