Extended Studies

Position Description:
This position is a twelve-month exempt, at-will, full-time position with the primary responsibility of directing all phases of marketing for Extended Studies products and services. This position is an on-campus position reporting to the Executive Director of Extended Studies. The individual will develop and implement a marketing plan and manage all marketing materials for the Office of Extended Studies.
The Marketing Director (1) creates, designs, coordinates and implements on-going marketing and public relations campaigns that support enrollment efforts, (2) coordinates the marketing budget and reports on initiative progress, (3) develops relationships with organizations providing a potential source of new enrollments and (4) works cross functionally with units to ensure programs align with organizational priorities and goals.
This position is critical to expanding enrollment and revenue growth and will be accountable for quality marketing systems and effective utilization of marketing resources. The individual will create, develop and nurture a marketing-oriented, customer-centric culture, encouraging imaginative thinking and positive organizational atmosphere. The ideal candidate will be energetic, creative, enthusiastic, analytical, and eager to take on new responsibilities.
The following are the specific job duties:
- Manage marketing plans and schedules for all current and future Extended Studies programs, services, and products. Direct media relations, advertising, communication, and publication efforts on a local, state, and national level
- Analyze data, trends, and research to target new prospects and provide insights to unit managers and directors
- Accountable for the creation, development, organization, coordination, execution, and evaluation of specific marketing projects and initiatives from concept through copy writing, design, production, and implementation
- Determine, implement, and evaluate the right mix of campaign elements - direct mail, email, webinars, newsletters, sponsorships, telemarketing, direct response, on-line banners, podcasting, blogs, vlogs, viral marketing, social networking, etc. - with the most compelling and creative calls to action
- Provide direction and monitor design concepts to ensure consistency, effectively providing department and product identity and branding
- Oversee the effective collection, analysis, and dissemination of competitive intelligence
- Work with unit directors and managers to define market opportunities to expand the reach of Extended Studies, building upon current penetration and customer recognition
- Analyze response rates and provide direction for continuous improvement with catalog designs, direct mail campaigns, e-mail campaigns, and cross-marketing efforts
- Measure the tactical impact of strategies using a variety of metrics, including web tracking, surveys, student evaluations, focus groups, etc.
- Coordinates and monitors marketing cost center budget. Resolves discrepancies and issues to ensure meeting budget commitments. Establishes and implements an effective plan for reviewing the return on investment for all marketing activities.
- Develop, coordinate, and manage public relations campaigns and services
- Maintain event calendars in publications and Internet sources, including Extended Studies website
- Identify new groups and key leaders in organizations and corporations to build and maintain synergistic partnerships on a local and national level
- Manage external relationships with agencies and vendors as needed to develop and successfully execute programs
- Advise and train Extended Studies staff of new marketing initiatives and procedures
- Work with unit directors and managers to develop marketing messages, with associated sales collateral, to express the unique, relevant value of the Extended Studies
- Supervision of staff associated with marketing initiatives
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor degree in marketing, communications, or related field with a minimum of five (5) years working experience in a position with similar duties
- Proven expertise writing articles, direct mail content, email messages, print ads, online ads, and other media messages
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
- High degree of organizational skills, self motivation and ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with staff and faculty to achieve results
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills required. Ability to communicate effectively with multiple departments and department leadership is required
- Excellent problem solving skills with creative ability to think outside the box
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with ability to draw conclusions and determine strategies based on data and available resources
- Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop, and desktop publishing software
- Functional understanding of Web technology and e-commerce
- Strong knowledge of off-line and on-line marketing - including banners, direct response advertising, e-newsletters, etc. - and experience with testing and ROI analysis for development of complete integrated marketing campaigns
- Proven ability to deliver projects on time while achieving or exceeding expected results within budget
- Willingness and ability to travel

Preferred:
- Advanced degree in marketing, communications or related field
- Experience in higher education
- Understand and reflect cultural/translation sensitivities given global responsibility
- Knowledge of corporate branding strategy and implementation
- Expertise in the use of Adobe InDesign and Bricolage
Salary and Benefits:
This position is a mid-level, full-time leadership position with a salary range of $50,000 to $52,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Compensation is competitive, commensurate with experience and qualifications and includes a liberal benefit package and retirement plan.
