Assistant Professor of Chemistry

Position Description:
Adams State College is inviting applications for a tenure-track position in chemistry at the Assistant Professor level. We are looking for an energetic person to join a dynamic program whose focus is on all aspects of teaching excellence. The successful candidate will annually teach a two-semester physical chemistry course w/lab, freshmen chemistry classes/labs and the general education chemistry class/labs on a rotating basis. There may be opportunities to teach upper divisional courses such as inorganic chemistry or instrumental analysis. The course load is 12 credit hours per semester. Experience with instrument operation and routine maintenance is expected. Interest in innovative strategies for chemical education, collaboration with K-12 schools, student assessment, green chemistry, forensic chemistry, and/or other interdisciplinary areas is desirable. The Chemistry Program is housed in a modern building, with multimedia classrooms and computer labs, and has a wide variety of modern instrumentation including HPLC, AA, FT-IR, UV-Vis, GC, GC-MS, scanning fluorometer, FT-NMR, and several lasers. The successful applicants will join a diverse department that offers bachelor's degrees in chemistry, mathematics, and computer science. All department faculty advise students and provide service to the department, college, and community.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field is required by the time of the appointment. Candidates must have strong background in physical chemistry. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate:
- interest and background in inorganic chemistry and/or instrumental analysis
- interest and background in chemical education, student assessment, K-12 collaboration
- interest in environmental chemistry, green chemistry, and/or forensic science
- experience, success, and a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and student-centered instruction
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- potential for continued scholarly growth
- an ability to perform the above position description
Salary:
Salary range is $42,000 to $46,500 depending on qualifications and experience. Adams State College offers a competitive benefits package.
