Associate Provost

Position Description:
This is a twelve-month exempt, at-will, full-time position reporting to the Provost of Adams State College (ASC). The primary responsibility of this individual is the leadership of the revenue-generating, self-funded Extended Studies Division of ASC. This leadership includes directing 30+ person staff both on-campus and off-campus. The position is responsible for strategic planning for and growth of all off-campus, cash-funded programs at ASC. This includes on-line, on-site or correspondence delivered degree programs and professional development certificates and courses. This position serves in a senior leadership role at Adams State College.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership in the development and delivery of high quality, innovative education to diverse groups in the areas of undergraduate and graduate programs, professional development courses, certificates, workshops, and other educational events.
- Develop and implement a strategic plan for distance education that supports the ASC strategic plan.
- Ensure sound budget development and management. Monitor the fiscal condition of this self-supporting department to ensure a balanced budget, maintain the financial viability of the unit, and attain assigned fiscal goals.
- Develop, maintain and strengthen relationships and partnerships with a wide range of constituencies, including ASC administration, faculty and staff, and external government, educational, profit, non-profit and community-based organizations.
- Provide creative leadership in the College’s use of emerging technologies and nontraditional means of delivering instruction.
- Responsible for assessing the academic quality of off-campus programming and the alignment of off-campus degree programs with the academic strategic plan.
- Responsible for researching and understanding market potential of existing programs as well as determining future program markets that support the mission of the College.
- Provide a vision and framework for partnerships with internal and external constituencies.
- Identify a strategic niche for delivering distinctive continuing education programs, marked by quality and responsiveness to regional, state and international opportunities.
- Ensure a high standard of program delivery by cultivating a culture of excellence.
- Collect and maintain data documenting the operational and academic components of Extended Studies and provide reports as requested.
- Direct supervision of upper level Extended Studies staff and indirect supervision of all Extended Studies staff.
- Interpret and analyze pending legislation, regulations and procedures related to distance programs to determine their impact on programs and service areas and formulate compliance and reporting strategies.
- Represent the college to community, governmental, education, and professional organizations as appropriate.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate in related field, Ph.D. preferred.
- Demonstration of strong leadership skills.
- Demonstrate experience in developing, leading and managing off-campus programs, budget and personnel.
- Proven ability to analyze critically and respond to changing economic and social trends in meeting needs of the adult learner.
- Experience showing strong administrative, organizational, interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated academic skills.
- Vision and creativity.
- Evidence of entrepreneurial and human relations skills.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in the use of technology in learning.
- A proven record of success in working with educational partnerships (K-12 and community colleges).
- Proven expertise in developing strong professional development programs.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range: $80,000-$95,000. Adams State College offers a competititive benefits package.
