What on EARTH? (06-04-08)
Plastic or Planet?
ASC Community Partnerships is helping EARTH (Environmental Action for Resources, Transportation and Health) gain visibility in the community and spread the reusable shopping bag habit with eco-bags displaying the EARTH logo. The bags are made of 100% natural cotton and produced according to Fair Wage/Fair Labor principals. The bags are imprinted with a barcode good which directs a 5-cent donation to EARTH and Community Partnerships, if used at the Alamosa City Market.
Nearly 800 bags were sold by ASC Community Partnerships and EARTH in the last two months. For each $5 bag sold, Community Partnerships earns $1 to support environmental projects. Bag sales (about 80) during Earth Week benefited EARTH. The ASC President's Office purchased a bag for each employee.
Karl Jolliff, an AmeriCorp volunteer with ASC Community Partnerships, created a brief video promoting the bags.
Cleaning Green
Facilities Services has begun a concerted effort to use "greener" chemicals for cleaning supplies. A recent visit from a supplier of these chemicals suggests that Adams State is ahead of almost every other campus in the state in this respect.
