Jazz at Adams State College is an intricate part of the ASC Department of Music. Currently, the program is directed by James Doyle, Assistant Professor of Music. Ensembles and classes offered include Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combos, and Jazz History. We also have an active IAJE Student Chapter. Jazz ensembles and classes are open to all ASC students regardless of major.
Each year, the Jazz Program has several concerts and events that feature our talented music students. You can check out the year's events by visiting our Jazz Events web page or the ASC Department of Music Event Calendar. Our biggest event is the Annual Jazz Festival where high school jazz ensembles from across the region perform and attend educational workshops and performances. Each year a guest artist is brought in to perform with the ASC Jazz Ensemble in a special concert. The entire jazz festival is free and open to the public. This year's festival featured saxophonist Brad Leali and the USAF Falconaires. Past guest soloists include Kevin Bryan, Diana Witkowski, Paul McKee, Ron McCurdy, and Glenn Kostur.
The International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) Student Chapter is an offical club at Adams State. This important student opporated organization works to raise money and find funding for many elements and events for the Jazz Studies Program. If you are interested in supporting this organization or the Jazz Studies Program at ASC, please contact Mr. James Doyle by phone at 719-587-8157 or email at jwdoyle@adams.edu.
