Adams State College Invitational Jazz Festival
The Adams State College Invitational Jazz Festival
Each year high school and middle school instrumental jazz ensembles come to our campus to perform and receive a clinic from our nationally recognized clinicians. A non-competitive festival with no ratings, the ASC Jazz Fest's goals are to give each visiting group an opportunity to perform and advice on how to perform better, without the stress of performing for ratings or playing better than another band. We work towards these goals through not only giving clinics to each band on the music they perform, but also through master-classes for each section of the jazz ensemble.
This year's featured guest soloist and clinician Following the concert, students will have the opportunity to talk and meet with them in a "meet the artist" session.
Additional evening concert
Each ensemble presents a 30-minute performance immediately followed by a 30-minute clinic (10 minutes more for each than in previous years.) The clinicians attend the performance and then work with the band in a clinic setting, offering comments and suggestions to help the students learn and improve their jazz styles and skills.
Additional Clincs are included at the jazz festival. There are separate masterclasses for each section of the jazz ensemble, an improvisation clinic and a Jazz Ensemble Directors clinic available for graduate credit.
The entrance fee for the ASC 2006 Jazz Festival is $80 per ensemble. More than one ensemble from each group are allowed, and jazz combos as well as big bands are encouraged to attend. Each additional group from the same school is $40. At this time the ASC Jazz Festival is open to instrumental ensembles only.
Performance sites This year we are planning to have separate warm-up and clinic rooms to allow for more groups, longer performances and extended clinic time for each group.
