English - Secondary Education Emphasis
The Seconadary Education emphasis in English prepares students to teach high school. English teachers are in high demand and ASC graduates have been placed throughout the United States.
English - Secondary Education Degree Plan
- To earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English with an emphasis in Secondary Education, Adams State College students must fulfill the following requirements:
- 1. Completion of the general studies requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree, plus the secondary teacher licensure requirements listed under the Department of Teacher Education.
- 2. Completion of the following required courses:
- Eng 210: Study of Literature (3 credit hours)
- Eng 226: Basic Grammar and History of English (3 credit hours)
- Eng 258: Mythology (3 credit hours)
- Eng 309: English Literature I (3 credit hours)
- Eng 310: English Literature II (3 credit hours)
- Eng 314: Adolescent Literature (3 credit hours)
- Eng 316: Methods of Teaching English (3 credit hours)
- Eng 327: Creative Writing: An Introduction (3 credit hours)
- Eng 357: Intro. to Linguistics (3 credit hours)
- Eng 363: Advanced Composition (3 credit hours)
- Eng 365: Ethnic and Minority Literature (3 credit hours)
- Eng 394: American Literature I (3 credit hours)
- Eng 395: American Literature II (3 credit hours)
- Eng 403: Shakespeare (3 credit hours)
- Thtr 213: Oral Interpretation of Literature (3 credit hours)
- 3. All English majors are encouraged to take one year of foreign language or to demonstrate proficiency therein by examination.
- 4. A portfolio of the student’s work in the major must be submitted during the senior year. Guidelines for assembling the portfolio and deadlines for submission are available from the department head or the major advisor.
