English - Liberal Arts Emphasis
The liberal arts emphasis in the English Program offers a diverse liberal education that can open doors in business, government, and more specialized fields such as public relations and advertising.
Liberal Arts Emphasis in English
- To earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English, with an emphasis in Liberal Arts, Adams State College students must fulfill the following requirements:
- 1. Complete the general studies requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree.
- 2. Complete the following core courses:
- Eng 210: Study of Literature (3 credit hours)
- Eng 226: Basic Grammar and History of English (3 credit hours)
- Eng 363: Advanced Composition (3 credit hours)
- Eng 403: Shakespeare (3 credit hours)
- Eng 394: American Literature I, (3 credit hours)
- Eng 480: Contemporary Literary Theory (3 credit hours)
- Eng 495: Senior Seminar (3 credit hours)

- 3. 36 credit hours are required to complete the Liberal Arts English program.
- 4. All English majors are encouraged to take one year of foreign language or to demonstrate proficiency therein by examination.
- 5. A portfolio of the student's work in the major must be submitted during the senior year. Guidelines for assembling the portfolio and deadlines for submission are available from the department head or the major advisor.
