WebCT CE 6.0 Frequently Asked Questions
WebCT is the Course Management System (CMS) ASC uses for its internet classes. The following FAQ may help in understanding how the program works.
What are the minimum system requirements for WebCT?
In general, the system requirements for WebCT 6.0 are the system requirements for a 56K or better Internet connection and a supported Web browser such as Netscape, Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari.
-Windows
If you are a Windows user, you should use Windows 98, ME, NT, 4.0, 2000, or XP and a 56k V.90 modem or better Internet connection. Depending on the media used in individual course sites, you may need a sound card and speakers.
-Macintosh
If you are a Macintosh user, you need a machine that can support Mac OS X and a 56k V.90 modem or better Internet connection.

What are Temporary Internet Files (cache)?
Temporary Internet Files are, in fact, the cache of the Internet Explorer. This means that when you load a web page from the internet, it is saved on your computer so that if you later decide to open the same page again, it will open a lot faster. Temporary Internet Files improve speed of web browsing and also make possible so called offline browsing, which gives you the ability to open the web pages from cache even when you are not connected to the Internet.
How do Temporary Internet Files affect WebCT?
Temporary Internet Files may interfere with content being downloaded from WebCT. By clearing your Temporary Internet Files you are starting with a clean slate.
How do I clear my Temporary Internet Files (CACHE)?
When using the Internet Explorer browser, select TOOLS from the tool bar. After selecting TOOLS, select INTERNET OPTIONS, and select DELETE under browsing history in the general tab.
When using the Mozilla Firefox browser, select TOOLS from the tool bar. After Selecting TOOLS, select clear private data from the menu. A box will appear asking which items to clear. To clear temporary internet files or CACHE, make sure that the CACHE check box is selected.
How do I allow pop-ups from WebCT?
When using the Mozilla Firefox browser, to allow pop-ups for WebCT Click on Tools >> Options >> and select the Content tab. Directly across from the Block pop-ups check box, select the EXCEPTIONS tab. In the address of the website you wish to allow type in: webct.adams.edu, and select allow.
When using the Internet Explorer browser, to allow pop-ups for WebCT click on the Tools>> Pop-up blocker>> Pop-up blocker settings. Once in the settings, type in the address: webct.adams.edu and select add.
What is a token number?
A token is a number provided by Adams State College upon registration. This number is a one time use number that allows you to get your password. To get your password using your token, go to www.adams.edu/getit and enter your information including your token number and student ID number.
What is a Student Identification Number?
A student Identification Number (SIN) is a number assigned to you by Adams State College for identification purposes in the system. The SIN will appear as 900-***-***. This number will remain the same for you throughout your time at Adams State College. This number is essential for registration, financial aid, and many other aspects of the college. If for some reason you do not receive your Student Identification Number, contact Adams State College computing services at 719-587-7741.
What is my Username?
A username will be issued to you by Adams State College upon enrollment. This username is used to login to all aspects of the college, including, WebCT, email, and One-stop. If for some reason you do not receive your username, contact Adams State College computing services at 719-587-7741.
How do I change my password?
After getting your initial password set (see what is a token number) you will be given an opportunity to change your password to your liking. This will change your password for all logins with Adams State College. If you want to change your password following the initial setup (which is recommended) visit portal.adams.edu and in the top right hand corner, select the CHANGE PASSWORD link. Enter required information and you will be finished.
How do I know that my computer is ready for WebCT?
From the Adams State College Portal: portal.adams.edu, Select the WebCT Icon in the top right corner of the page. You will be brought to a login page. On the login page to the right of username and password boxes, there is a gray tab that says Check Browser. Select this tab and WebCT will run a check on your computer for required software and plug-ins. If you receive green check marks next to each box, you are ready to go. If not select the Browser Tune-up link and follow the directions presented to make your computer compatible with WebCT.
How do I login to WebCT?
From the Adams State College Portal: portal.adams.edu, Select the WebCT Icon in the top right corner of the page. You will be brought to a login page in which you will enter your username and password. Once you have entered the correct information, your my WebCT homepage will appear with a listing of your class or classes. Select the class you wish to enter from the list.

Who do I contact if I have issues with the content of the course in WebCT?
If you are faced with issues in regards to course content, contact the instructor of the course to work out the issue. The Academic Instructional Technology Center is not responsible for the content aspect of the course.
Who do I contact if I have problems accessing or using the Technology involved with WebCT?
Adams State College now has an Academic Instructional Technology Center (AITC) to assist you with educational technology. Can I use a wireless internet connection to view videos streamed through WebCT?
Using a wireless internet connection to view videos streamed through WebCT can be glitchy. The sound and video may not synchronize; you may get a broken or tiled picture, and so forth. Some programs at Adams State College, including the Counselor Education, require that you find the proper technology involved with viewing videos as they are an important aspect in some courses. If you have a wireless connection at home, you may be required to work from other locations such as libraries or schools to view streamed videos.
